Why Massey Shaw Mmtters

Launched in 1935, Massey Shaw is a survivor with an extraordinary story:

  • Dunkirk Hero: In May 1940, with volunteer firemen and a hastily-purchased compass, she crossed the Channel three times to rescue over 500 troops from the beaches—the only fireboat at Dunkirk.
  • Blitz Veteran: Throughout the London Blitz, she fought countless fires along the Thames, helping save St Paul’s Cathedral when water mains had been destroyed.
  • Living Heritage: She’s believed to be the only remaining working fireboat of her type in Europe, with her original Gleniffer engines and Merryweather pumps still operational.
